Top 5 Pillows of 2024 – A Buyer’s Guide

Top 5 Pillows of 2024 – A Buyer’s Guide

Don't buy a pillow until you read this!

Waking up with neck pain isn’t the way most people like to start their day. After a long night of sleep, you should wake up content and well-rested, not irritated and tired. In most cases, a sore neck is a result of your sleeping position or the type of pillow you use. Luckily, switching out your pillow is a quick fix that can drastically improve your life—while asleep and awake.

Bamboo Pillows are a relatively new product that has started gaining popularity this year because of their superior benefits. The majority of Bamboo pillows come with hefty price tags because of their quality, however, we discovered the company 'Cosy House Collection' that have been creating waves on social media and in the news with their high-quality Bamboo Pillows that come with a ridiculously low price tag!

Doctors say that we get the deepest, healthiest sleep when our bodies are cool, comfortable, and able to breathe. There's nothing worse than a pillow that retains heat and moisture which makes you hot. (Ahem: Night-sweats anyone?)

Finally – you’ll want some pillows which are Hypoallergenic. We've found that cotton isn’t very good at this & tends to hold pollen, allergens & bacteria until it’s washed! Unless your bedding is being washed daily, you’re likely suffering (from allergens) while you sleep and you just don’t know it.

It can be difficult to know which are the best pillows on the market. That's why we have compiled months of research about this emerging category. We’ll show you what to look for and what to avoid when picking your perfect pillows, and how it can help transform your sleep.

Benefits of Extra Sleep & Rest:

Helps you maintain weight

  • Better Energy Control
  • Maintain Correct Hormone Levels

Cognitive Health

  • Boosts Memory
  • Enhances Processing Speed

Cardiovascular Health

  • Aids Cardiovascular Function
  • Helps Maintain Normal Blood Flow

Stronger immune system

  • Bolsters Immune System
  • Helps to fight off illness & infection

What You Need In The Perfect Pillow

Taking all of the healthful attributes listed above into consideration, we've boiled down a list of four key characteristics you should always look for in a great pillow for sleeping. Try to seek out all of these qualities:

Head & Neck Support

It’s simple to create a pillow that’s cosy, but when it comes to the ideal pillow, there’s a fine line between cosy and too firm. The ideal pillow cradles the neck and head, while also creating a better breathing path for sleepers of all kinds. Look for a pillow that is filled with a plush, clump-resistant down alternative fill.

Temperature-Regulating Material

While there are plenty of pillows made to help you endure either hot summer nights or cold winters, the best pillows are those that are great for all seasons.

Many pillows with cotton casing claim to be breathable and cooling, but they tend to trap heat after hours of laying in bed.

On the other hand, pillows with a bamboo casing are naturally temperature-regulating and wick away moisture, allowing you to stay cool and dry year-round, especially in the summer!

Softness & Comfort

The best pillows are silky soft, even softer than Egyptian cotton while offering a heap of additional features. Scientifically-backed, Bamboo pillows are more effective at moisture wicking, keeping you cool and dry through out the night.

Hypoallergenic

Common Household non-living allergens can thrive when paired with traditional pillows that allow them to thrive causing endless nights of tossing and turning from symptoms like itchy throat, runny nose, and watery eyes. Luckily, bamboo pillows are hypoallergenic and breathable. It is the combination of these features, working together, that raises their individual benefits exponentially.

Traditional fabrics are a breeding ground for bacteria causing bad odors, stains, and even acne. The combined benefits of bamboo allow your pillows to stay fresher, for longer (we found about 2x as long compared to traditional cotton pillows)

What To Avoid When Buying Pillows

Non-Hypoallergenic Filling

The highest price pillow is always the best right? Actually, no (We were shocked to discover this too!) So many traditional-style pillows are made using old outdated methods, such as down or feather pillows. In many instances, the down and feather filling for these pillows are not thoroughly cleaned, which can be a cause of concern for those with sensitive skin and noses.

Traditional pillows also often use cotton pillow covers that absorb moisture and cause sensitive skin to experience possible reactions.

Chemicals

Many pillows are finished with chemicals that are harmful to your skin & body. Companies process their pillows with chemical finishes to stop shrinking, wrinkling, and pilling in the wash. It's incredibly important to look for OEKO-TEX & CertiPUR-US certifications when buying pillows.

Consumers often think they're safe with Cotton pillows, however, because the way they're grown cotton is often sprayed with chemicals & pesticides that carry over into the final product. This is a recipe for disaster when you're sleeping on these pillows for 7-8 hours a day.

The best way to ensure your pillows are free of chemicals and/or harmful substances is to buy from one of the reputable brands carrying a CertiPUR-US Certification. CertiPUR-US certifies that the product has been tested for harmful substances and that they are, therefore, harmless for human health and safe to use.

The Bottom Line

Coop's Pillow offers adjustable memory foam, however, the foam seems to clump up a bit.

Coop also does have a variety of pillows to choose from, but value-wise we didn't see enough of a difference in actual performance to make it worth the higher price tag

The Bottom Line

Purple's Adjustable Pillow can be pretty comfortable, however, the adjustable boosters don't work as well as we hoped. While we give Purple bonus points for trying to create an adjustable pillow filling that’s less messy, it just doesn't give you the same amount of customization you get with the Cosy House & Coop pillow to get the perfect fit.

With that being said, the mesh outer layer is quite cooling, making it a good choice for sweaty sleepers.

CONS

The Bottom Line

The Foam Pillow for Sleeping by Casper features CertiPUR Memory foam, however, it is not adjustable. While the pillow does offer decent support for some, the 5-centimetre loft can leave much to be desired for many sleepers.

Some reviewers also state they have had issues with firmness and waking up itchy. While it's still a decent pillow, if you're looking for the best pillow for your money we recommend skipping this one for a cheaper option.

The Bottom Line

Snuggle-Pedic’s Bed Foam Pillow features an adjustable memory foam that seems like it's made of factory excess from creating other products and not as good of a quality foam as the others, however, it is still CertiPUR Certified.

As of writing the King Pillow is currently £99.00. Not a very good value overall when compared to the others, and while a decent performer, this would be our last pick.
